Chris Munro started his journey with the Great Endeavour Rally in 2006 as the event photographer. After 19 rallies, captivated by its spirit, he vowed to return as an entrant. This year, Munro, alongside Mike Pearl, represents one of the local team participating, coming from Warwick, Allora, and Toowoomba, named "The Inspectors."
The Great Endeavour Rally, spanning over 35 years, is more than just a rally; it’s a reliability test conducted in a safe, satellite-tracked environment using Rally Safe. This adventure has allowed Chris to explore Australia’s diverse landscapes, providing a perspective few get to experience.
The primary goal is to raise funds for the Endeavour Foundation, enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. So far, Chris and his team have raised $6000, with donations still being accepted via a QR code.
The rally emphasises camaraderie and mutual support within the rally family. Participants receive significant support from fellow rally enthusiasts & professional assistance from the Australian Defence Force, Komatsu, and Transport Field Services, which is based in Warwick and consists of Geoff Lang and Phil Ingram.
The event begins in Roma, Queensland, on August 22, with vehicle inspections and a welcome dinner. From August 23, participants will journey to Longreach, navigating private station tracks, national & state parks, and iconic routes like the Birdsville Track and Walkers Crossing. Stops include Tibooburra, Innaminka, Birdsville, and Big Red, with memorable moments such as standing in three states at once at Cameron Corner and Poeppel Corner. Concluding in Longreach on September 1, the rally promises a ten-day adventure filled with stunning views and heartfelt camaraderie.
This adventure highlights the collective spirit of the driving community, unified in its mission to support people with disabilities. We encourage everyone to donate and support this noble cause, helping to enhance the quality of life for many. Safe travels, Chris and team!
