I was blessed to discover my passion at such a young age and started playing cricket when I was just four years old, I turn fifteen this month.  Now, I’m not going to lie, initially, I wasn’t a fan. My father and brother went a little bit over-the-top and I never understood the hype, but by seven I'd accepted it and by the time I turned nine you couldn’t drag me away from the game! Making my first representative team at age ten, in an U12’s team nonetheless, I’ve quite regularly been the baby of the team. Honestly, I’ve never been the stand-out player, it’s been about the love for the game and friendships that are made - although at the start it certainly wasn’t easy.  

Being one of only two girls playing in the Warwick Junior Cricket Association early on, it was only star player Lucy Bourke and I. Lucy excelled at cricket and sport in general from the very beginning. She is one of the most humble people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and one of the most naturally gifted cricketers. I certainly started excelling a little later than Lucy did, though it never threatened my love and fascination with cricket. 

I’ve been very fortunate this past year accepting opportunities which have again strengthened my passion for the game. I began playing Club Cricket in Brisbane, which led to my 1st grade senior women’s debut for the University of QLD Cricket Club. I’m currently this season’s leading wicket-taker for the Club and of course, the baby of another team.  I was also invited to play in the QLD Cricket U15 and U17 Female State Championships this season as well. 

I’ve had lots of help along the way, but the support at school has been vital to my growth as a cricketer. Having Carly Cooper as one of many creative teachers has been very enjoyable. Carly, also a passionate cricketer, was also the manager for the U15’s Darling Downs Schoolgirls team this past year. I truly believe that it was with her guidance I was able to proceed to the 13-15yrs QLD Schoolgirl’s team. 

During my time playing cricket I’ve never been alone and having dedicated coaches has been fundamental in my progression. Moving to Brisbane, cricket has been a new experience introducing me to  many new people, each with different views on the game. This helps further strengthen my understanding of it, but I will never forget where it all began - in Warwick.

When I was eleven, I bonded with my personal coach, Anthony ‘Clarkie’ Clark. He recognised my uniqueness and has been very committed to my improvement throughout the years. Many have told me that I am unique as I am a left hand wrist spinner (Chinaman).  

Clarkie has coached many up-and-coming young guns. He continues to be one of the best coaches in QLD. If I ever do become a professional cricketer, it will be because of him.  

There are so many role models who I aspire to be like, Delissa Kimmince (Australian Cricketer) is always the first to come to mind. She proved that people from the country are capable of anything. With more practice and dedication, I want to further my skills and abilities to be as successful as she is. 

Learning the art of spin bowling has never come easy, especially when you are willing to master the hardest type.
