There’s a new roar echoing through DD Zoo, and it belongs to Caesar, a playful, curious African Lion cub who’s quickly capturing hearts.

While his species originates from the savannahs of Africa, Caesar brings a unique Australian twist - he’s 15 generations Australian-born! Even more remarkable, four of those generations have been bred right here at DD Zoo, starting with his great, great, great grandmother.

Caesar’s the picture of youthful energy. His days are filled with play, learning, and exploration, as he hones the skills he’ll need to become the king of his pride. Watching him dart around, pounce, and engage with his surroundings is a delight. But like every young lion, Caesar has his quirks - he’s not a fan of loud noises, particularly the boisterous calls of the Zoo’s lemurs.

More than just adorable; Caesar represents the next chapter in DD Zoo’s lion breeding program. As he grows older, he will step into his role as the foundation for the next generation of lions.

The Zoo is already planning to find him a lioness - or two - to ensure his legacy continues. For now, he’s being hand-raised and cared for separately from the other lions, preparing for his future as part of the pride. While this means he’s not always on display, those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him are in for a treat.

Caesar is surrounded by family at the Zoo, including his parents and two doting aunts, giving visitors a chance to see the strong bonds within his pride. While Caesar’s days are filled with playful energy, the adult Lions are the laziest animals in the Zoo.
