Aikido is a martial way and due to its technical nature, fosters a unique mind-body connection. Aikido is often translated as “the way of harmonious spirit” the primary goal in the practice is to overcome one’s limitations instead of cultivating overt violence or aggressiveness.
Our dojo practices extensive stretching at the start of each class . We have world class training mats Our system includes the use of locks, holds and throws utilizing the opponent’s own movements and energy.
We also have a weapons component within the art, studying the bokken (wooden training sword) and Jo (4 foot staff). Weapons training is primarily for the enhancement of open handed technique.
We practice all movements in a safe manner whilst maintaining martial intent. The art is a great choice for people that may not be physically strong as it relies on timing, technique and body positioning rather than strength. The training transfers favorably into all facets of life.
Warwick Aikido Club welcomes all prospective students. Junior classes for years 6-12yrs. We are a not for profit organization with highly credentialed instructors.
